GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Gargoyles scored four straight goals in the third period, and the second hat trick in franchise history by Deni Goure, launching a 7-4 victory over the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope Arena on Saturday night.
Norfolk got on the board first, scoring 3:33 into the first period. David Gagnon tied the game 9:58 into the first in his return to the lineup after being reassigned from the Chicago Wolves Saturday morning. Goure scored his first of the night four minutes later to take the Gargoyles first lead of the night. The Admirals would tie the game again at 18:54, entering the first intermission tied 2-2.
Norfolk opened the second period regaining the lead at 4:39. The Gargoyles responded again as Anthony Messuri tipped a shot from Arty Borshyov at 8:28. Zach Faremout added an assist to tie the game 3-3.
Norfolk would take the lead again early in the third period on a giveaway by Ruslan Khazheyev, taking back a 4-3 lead. Tyler Weiss ignited the offense with a slick between-the-legs dangle on the zone entry, then showed poise on a wraparound, holding the puck to find a lane and feeding Blake Biondi for a backdoor tap-in to tie the game. Noah Delmas scored his first goal of the season on a slap shot from the slot that would stand as the game winner, then set up Goure on his second goal of the night two minutes later. Goure closed out a 7-4 win with an empty net goal to secure his first career hat trick.
Patrick Newell finished the game with three assists, adding six points (2G-4A) in two games since returning to the lineup. Messuri, Biondi, and Delmas each finished with two points (1G-1A). Faremouth, Borshyov, and Weiss recorded two assists.
“It’s nice having Patty back, even last night he had two nice goals and a nice assist for us,” said Goure. “Getting a veteran guy back is big and we’ve had good line chemistry all year. Him and Nelly are a lot of fun to play with. We’re going to stick with what we’ve been doing and plan on the puck continuing to find the back of the back of the net.”
The team continues their six-game road trip with a rubber match to win the weekend against Norfolk. The Gargoyles return home on February 27 with the return of Pucks and Paws Night, and eight of the next nine games at the First Horizon Coliseum!
