Gagnon, Kuzma Score Twice in 8-5 Loss at Allen

ALLEN, TX – The Greensboro Gargoyles opened their final road weekend of the Inaugural Season in their first matchup with the Allen Americans on Thursday morning at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center. Neither offense slept in for the 10:30 AM school day puck drop, as the Americans finished a 13 goal game with an 8-5 win.

The Americans scored on their first shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Demetrios Koumontzis tied the score 15:57 into the first assisted by Greg Smith and Noah Delmas.

The Gargoyles surged into the second period, opening on a breakaway goal by Drew Kuzma assisted by Blake Dangos and Dalton Skelly at 2:50. David Gagnon extended the lead at 5:21, becoming the franchise’s leading goal scorer with his 16th of the season, assisted by Skelly and Dangos. The Americans responded with two goals in the second half of the middle frame to tie the game 3-3 after 40 minutes.

Allen opened the third period with two goals 78 seconds apart to regain their lead, giving them a 5-3 advantage with 17:41 remaining. Kuzma got one back, scoring his second goal of the game from Tian Rask with 11:54 left in the third. Gagnon then added his second of the game 2:37 later, assisted by Ethan Leyh on the power play. The Gargoyles went shorthanded, 4-on-3, allowing a power play goal to give the Americans the lead again. Allen tacked on two more empty net goals to finish an 8-5 result.

The Gargoyles have two more road games remaining this season as they finish their trip to Allen. Greensboro and the Americans face off on Friday and Saturday night, April 3-4, at 8/7 PM CST. The Gargoyles return home for the final six games of the inaugural season, hosting the Worcester Railers on Friday, April 10.
