May Returns to Greensboro for 2026-27

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Gargoyles, proud ECHL affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL's Chicago Wolves, announced today that defenseman Austen May has re-signed with the club for the 2026-27 season.
May, 23, joined the Gargoyles on March 19, 2026, after completing his collegiate career. The rookie defenseman appeared in 14 games to finish the season, recording three assists. He picked up his first professional point in his ECHL debut on March 21 against the Norfolk Admirals.
A native of Woodhaven, Michigan, May spent his first three NCAA seasons at Providence College. He posted a career-best 14 points (1G, 13A) in 34 games as a junior before transferring to Northeastern University for his senior season. He concluded his collegiate career with 41 points (12G, 29A) in 121 games.
“Austen got a taste of professional hockey at the end of last season, and that experience will be valuable for him coming into this year,” said Head Coach Mitch Giguere. “We believe he has another level to his game, and we’re excited to give him the opportunity to show that from day one. We expect him to be an important piece of our back end, play in different situations, and continue to grow throughout the season.”
May joins defensemen Artyom Borshyov and Braden Doyle along with forwards Demetrios Koumontzis, Shane Ott, Thomas Freel, and Tyler Cristall on the Gargoyles' 2026-27 roster.
Season tickets for the 2026-27 season are on sale now. Opening Weekend is set for Friday and Saturday, October 16-17, when the Gargoyles host the Reading Royals. For more information about season tickets or group outings, call (336) 365-0295 or email info@gargoyleshockey.com.
