Casey Severo and Jaxson Murray Sign Contracts for 2026-27

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Gargoyles, proud ECHL affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL's Chicago Wolves, announced today the signing of rookie forwards Casey Severo and Jaxson Murray to ECHL contracts for the 2026-27 season.

Severo, 25, appeared in five games with the Gargoyles last season on an Amateur Tryout (ATO). He made his professional debut on March 28, 2026, against the Maine Mariners and remained with the team for its road swing in Allen, Texas, before departing to finish school.

The 5-foot-11, 181-pound forward completed a four-year collegiate career at Harvard University, appearing in 126 games and totaling 67 points (35G, 32A). Severo recorded a career-high 28 points (16G, 12A) in 32 games during the 2024-25 season before adding 18 points (9G, 9A) as a senior in 2025-26. Prior to Harvard, Severo played three seasons of New England prep hockey before spending two seasons in the USHL, where he served as captain of the Madison Capitols during the 2021-22 season.

Murray, 23, also gained valuable professional experience at the close of the 2025-26 season, appearing in his first 13 professional games with the Cincinnati Cyclones. Murray made his professional debut on February 25, 2026, against the Toledo Walleye and recorded an assist, beginning a three-game, four-point streak in which he totaled one goal and three assists. He finished the season with six points (3G, 3A).

The 5-foot-10, 181-pound forward played two U SPORTS seasons at the University of Waterloo, highlighted by a 29-point campaign (8G, 21A) in 27 games during his first season. Prior to college, Murray developed with the Elmira Sugar Kings (GOJHL), Merritt Centennials (BCHL) and Aberdeen Wings (NAHL).

The following players are signed to ECHL contracts for the 2026-27 season:

Forwards: Demetrios Koumontzis, Shane Ott, Thomas Freel, Tyler Cristall, Eric Martin, Ryan Hughes, Chase Lefebvre, Markus Oden, Casey Severo, Jaxson Murray

Defensemen: Artyom Borshyov, Braden Doyle, Austen May, Cullen Ferguson, Oskars Briedis, Tristan De Jong
