Gargoyles Thrash Admirals with a Formidable Special Teams Display

NORFOLK, VA – The Greensboro Gargoyles (2-2-2-0) struck early and often on their way to capping off their second win of the 2026-27 season. The decisive 6-3 victory over the Norfolk Admirals (3-4-0-1) extends the Gargoyles' point streak to four games. It was a combined special teams effort: the Gargoyles’ power play set a franchise record by converting four times for a nice Halloween treat. Meanwhile, the penalty kill unit was also perfect, killing all five of the Admirals' man advantages.

Austen May notched his third goal of the season to open the game, as the Gargoyles' defenseman scored just 56 seconds into what would be a house of horrors for Norfolk. Parker Lindauer and Ethan Leyh assisted on May’s opening goal, starting extra-productive nights for the duo. Two minutes later, Norfolk responded, making it 1-1.

Eight minutes into the first period, the Gargoyles would get their first power play, and Tyler Cristall would convert right off the offensive-zone faceoff, scoring his second goal of the season. Four minutes later, once again on the power play, Parker Lindauer snapped it home from the bumper spot to score his first goal of the season. Lindauer finished with a goal and two assists and now has six points in four games played since joining the Gargoyles just 13 days ago.

The first-period frenzy was not over yet. Nineteen seconds after Lindauer’s goal, the Admirals would bite back and make it 3-2. With three minutes left in the dynamic opening frame, the Gargoyles went on the penalty kill, but the speed of Markus Oden turned that defense into offense as he joined the rush with Austen May and broke free for a shorthanded breakaway. Oden sniped it over the glove of Matt Vernon to make it 4-2 Gargoyles.

The scoring scaries would calm down on Halloween night, with Norfolk getting the only goal of the middle period. Another ghost would come back for Norfolk and send Greensboro back on the power play at the beginning of the third period. Nineteen seconds out of the locker room was all it took for Ethan Leyh to score his first goal of the season. Fifteen minutes later, Leyh would convert again on the power play for his second goal and fourth point of the night.

Tyler Cristall had the primary assists on both of Leyh’s third-period goals. Cristall finished with a goal and three assists and now has six total points on the season. Shane Ott finished with two assists to become the fourth multipoint scorer in the game for the Gargoyles. Rushlan Khazayev, in his third start of the season, faced only five shots in each period en route to his second win.

The Gargoyles will take the momentum with them back home as they face off against the Norfolk Admirals tomorrow at First Horizon Coliseum at 3 p.m. for another Sunday Funday.
