Gargoyles Welcome Jacob Rettger and Karli Sewell to Coaching Staff

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Gargoyles, proud ECHL affiliate of the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, are excited to welcome Jacob Rettger and Karli Sewell to the team’s coaching staff.

Rettger joins the Gargoyles as Video Coach for the 2026-27 season. A 2025 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Rettger brings experience across multiple levels of hockey in the Pittsburgh area. He began his coaching career at Avonworth High School before taking on roles with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization and the Mario Lemieux Foundation, where he first connected with Gargoyles Head Coach Mitch Giguere and Assistant Coach CJ D’Alimonte. Rettger spent the past year serving as a volunteer video coach with the Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL, while also working as an Assistant Coach with the Pens Elite youth hockey program. He now makes the move to Greensboro to support the Gargoyles coaching staff through video analysis, game preparation, and player development.

Sewell joins the Greensboro Gargoyles as Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2026-27 season, bringing more than six years of experience in sports science, athlete development, rehabilitation, and high-performance training. She most recently served as the Director of Remote Development with Bo Jackson's Elite Sports in Chicago, while also working as a Remote Return-to-Play Coordinator for Rush Hospital, collaborating with medical professionals to develop individualized rehabilitation and performance programs. Previously, she spent nearly five years as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for OGX Softball, now Driveline Softball, overseeing athlete development and performance programming. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Sewell graduated from Hendrix College in 2019 with a degree in Psychology and Neuroscience, where she was a four-year member of the softball team. She will work alongside the Gargoyles coaching staff to oversee player strength, conditioning, and physical performance throughout the season.

The season kicks off Friday and Saturday, October 16-17, when the Gargoyles host the Reading Royals at First Horizon Coliseum. Season tickets and single-game tickets for the 2026-27 season are on sale now. For more information about season tickets or group outings, call (336) 365-0295 or email info@gargoyleshockey.com.
