Leyh, 22, signed an AHL contract with the Wolves on June 30, 2026, following a standout rookie season. Leyh finished third on the Gargoyles in scoring with 29 points (10G, 19A) during the franchise’s inaugural season. The Anmore, BC, native shined in November, recording 15 points (5G, 10A) in 12 games and earning his first AHL call-up. Leyh made his AHL debut on December 20 against the Iowa Wild and appeared in two games with Chicago during the season.
Velmakin, 23, enters his first season in North America after a strong 2025-26 campaign with Dynamo St. Petersburg in the VHL, where he posted a 2.88 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 181-pound netminder from Moskva, Russia, was selected by the Hurricanes in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Draft. Velmakin appeared in 19 KHL games between the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons with Dynamo Minsk.
