GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Gargoyles, proud ECHL affiliate of the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, announced today that goaltender Ruslan Khazheyev has been recalled by Carolina and reassigned to Greensboro.
Khazheyev, 21, appeared in 41 games for the Gargoyles during their inaugural season, posting a 3.52 goals-against average and .894 save percentage. The Chelyabinsk, Russia, native served as the backup goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes during their preseason game against the Nashville Predators at First Horizon Coliseum on September 24 before beginning the season with Chicago in the AHL. Khazheyev started for the Wolves against the Manitoba Moose on Saturday, making his 23rd career AHL appearance as he enters his third professional season.
Khazheyev joins Gargoyles training camp as the fifth returning player from the team's inaugural Opening Night roster. The 6-foot-6 netminder was voted "Greensboro Fan Favorite" at the team's end-of-season Awards Show.
Season tickets and single-game tickets for the 2026-27 season are on sale now. The Gargoyles open their second season with Opening Weekend on Friday and Saturday, October 16-17, hosting the Reading Royals at First Horizon Coliseum.
