GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro Gargoyles earned their first point of the 2026-27 season but fell 2-1 in overtime to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Saturday night at First Horizon Coliseum. Gargoyles goaltender Yegor Velmakin set a new franchise record with 47 saves in the loss.

After a scoreless first period, Austen May scored his second goal of the season at 10:40 of the second period to give Greensboro its first lead of the season. May sent the puck from the defensive zone to Chase Lefebvre, who kicked it ahead to Tyler Cristall. May then found the rebound off Cristall’s shot and buried it to put the Gargoyles up 1-0.

Greenville answered 3:52 later with a power-play goal from Ryan O’Hara to even the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied through the end of regulation, sending the teams to overtime. The Gargoyles generated two dangerous scoring chances in the extra frame, but both were turned aside by Swamp Rabbits goaltender Mathias Sholl. Cameron Supryka sealed the win for Greenville with the game-winning goal at 4:01 of overtime.
Greenville finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Greensboro went 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
